Dental Implants with Pro Grace Dentistry in Calgary

Losing a tooth, especially several, can have a tremendous impact on a person. Not only can it negatively affect how you eat, but it can also lead to long-term consequences such as gum disease or a deteriorating jawbone.

There are several ways to replace missing teeth, but the most optimal and popular solution is by way of dental implants. This is a procedure we recommend to our patients at Pro Grace Dentistry when it comes to replacing missing teeth. But before you go rushing to your dentist for an implant, this article will provide you with all the information you need as to what exactly dental implants are and how they work.

What Are Dental Implants?

Simply put, a dental implant is an artificial tooth root typically made of titanium that is surgically placed in your jawbone. This is to replace the root of the natural tooth which acts as a support for the replacement tooth (the crown). The dental implant will be placed beneath the gum tissue, which is then stitched back into place. It may take several weeks for the titanium post to become firmly attached to your bone and your gums to fully heal.

Dental implants at Pro Grace Dentistry are a minimally invasive way to replicate a missing tooth. The result is a restorative solution that feels like your natural, strong teeth!

How it’s done:

  1. Once you’ve made a consultation with one of our dentists at Pro Grace Dentistry, they will examine your mouth and take X-rays. Having a clear picture of your teeth structure will help the dentist provide you with different treatment options and determine whether dental implants are right for you.
  2. Using a digital model of your teeth from the X-ray, an implant will be designed that matches the construct of your teeth’s anatomy.
  3. Our dentist will surgically place a titanium metal rod into your jawbone. The gum tissue can take several weeks or months to heal as the implant bonds with your bone and attaches to the gum.
  4. Once the tissue is healed, our dentist will attach an abutment to the implant.
  5. An artificial replacement tooth is made to be attached to the abutment.

Pro Grace Dentistry uses medical-grade fixtures that naturally cling to the jawbone cells to create stronger anchor support. This will prevent slippage and eating difficulties that are common issues for a patient after having dental implant procedures done.
